What This Grant Funds

The Toshiba America Foundation (TAF) funds innovative science and math programs in K-12 classrooms across the United States. TAF focuses on hands-on, project-based learning that engages students in real inquiry and experimentation. Grants support classroom-level programs that go beyond the standard curriculum and give students direct experience with scientific methods and technology tools. Physical computing, coding, and hands-on STEM projects all fit within TAF's funding priorities.

Who Is Eligible in Pennsylvania

Public and private school teachers in Pennsylvania teaching grades K through 12 are eligible. The foundation has two grant tiers. Teachers in grades K through 6 can apply for grants up to $5,000. Teachers in grades 6 through 12 can apply for grants up to $10,000. Applications are made by individual teachers, not by schools or districts.

Funding Amounts

Grants are up to $5,000 for K-6 teachers and up to $10,000 for grades 6-12 teachers. These awards are fully funded by TAF with no matching requirement from the school or district.

How Forward Education Products Qualify

Forward Education's micro:bit kits and hands-on coding curriculum are a natural fit for TAF-funded projects. The foundation specifically values programs where students learn by doing rather than by watching, and our physical computing kits require students to build, code, and iterate. Projects combining sensor use, data collection, and problem-solving align well with TAF's emphasis on scientific inquiry. We can provide project framing documentation to help teachers write strong TAF applications.

How to Apply and Timeline

TAF accepts applications twice a year. The K-6 program accepts applications year-round on a rolling basis. The grades 6-12 program has an annual deadline, typically in October. Applications are submitted through the TAF website. Teachers describe their project, explain the hands-on learning experience for students, and provide a detailed budget. Awards are announced approximately three months after the application deadline.
