Frequently Asked Questions

Can Title II funds be used to purchase curriculum kits?
Title II primarily funds teacher PD, coaching, and professional learning. Curriculum materials may be allowable when directly tied to a PD program — consult your district grants coordinator.

What is the difference between Title I and Title II?
Title I focuses on improving academic outcomes for low-income students. Title II focuses on improving teacher and principal quality. Both can support STEM curriculum when aligned to their respective goals.

Can Title II fund a STEM coaching position?
Yes. Instructional coaching — including STEM and CS coaching — is a common and allowable use of Title II funds.

Are there restrictions on how PD is structured?
Yes. Under ESSA, Title II-funded PD must be evidence-based, job-embedded, sustained, and directly tied to student learning goals.

How do I access Title II funds for teacher training in my building?
Work with your principal or district curriculum director. Title II is managed at the district level — individual school requests go through district administration.
