What This Grant Funds
The Pennsylvania Environmental Education Foundation (PEEF) provides grants to support environmental education programs for K-12 students and community organizations across Pennsylvania. Who Is Eligible in Pennsylvania
K-12 public and private schools, nonprofits, environmental education centers, and community organizations serving youth in Pennsylvania are eligible. Both new and established programs can apply. PEEF funds programs statewide, including rural, urban, and suburban communities.
Funding Amounts
PEEF grants typically range from $5,000 to $50,000. Smaller awards support classroom projects and field trip programming. Larger awards fund multi-school initiatives or curriculum development projects with broader reach.
How Forward Education Products Qualify
Forward Education's climate education tools and micro:bit-based environmental sensing kits complement PEEF-funded programs. Students can use our physical computing kits to build sensors that monitor temperature, soil moisture, light levels, and other environmental variables, directly connecting STEM skills to environmental observation. This hands-on data collection approach supports the inquiry-based learning outcomes that PEEF prioritizes. We provide curriculum documentation that aligns our tools to environmental education standards.
How to Apply and Timeline
PEEF issues grant applications annually. Deadlines and guidelines are posted on the PEEF website at peefonline.org. Most cycles have a spring application deadline with awards announced in the summer or early fall.
