IDEA provides formula-based federal funding to ensure students with disabilities receive a free, appropriate public education. Colorado districts can use IDEA funds for assistive technology, STEM accommodations, and ed-tech tools that support students with disabilities in accessing rigorous CS and STEM content.
What This Grant Funds
IDEA funds support special education services, individualized education programs (IEPs), assistive technology, and inclusive programming. When technology tools are included in a student's IEP, they can be funded through IDEA. STEM and CS materials that support students with disabilities in inclusive settings are eligible.
Who Can Apply
Colorado school districts receive IDEA Part B funds automatically through CDE based on the population of students with disabilities served. Special education directors and IEP teams determine how funds are allocated for individual students and programs.
How to Apply
IDEA funds are already flowing to your district. Work with your special education director and IEP teams to identify opportunities to use IDEA funds for assistive technology and inclusive STEM programming. Contact CDE's Special Education team for guidance on allowable uses.
