About This Grant

DTE Energy Foundation and Consumers Energy Foundation are two of the most active STEM education funders in Michigan. DTE Energy serves Southeast Michigan, including Detroit and suburbs. Consumers Energy serves much of rural and mid-Michigan.

Awards typically range from $5,000 to $75,000. Schools should apply to the utility that serves their area. Energy education and environmental science components can strengthen a proposal to either funder.

These grants are well-suited for physical computing equipment, coding curriculum, and teacher professional development.

Keep in Mind

Match Your Utility

DTE covers Southeast Michigan; Consumers Energy covers much of the rest of the state. Apply to the utility that serves your school.

Add an Energy Angle

Both foundations respond well to proposals connecting CS and STEM to energy or sustainability.

Budget Realistically

A well-scoped $15K-$30K proposal for a classroom set of equipment is more likely to succeed than a large multi-site ask.
