What This Grant Funds

DonorsChoose is a crowdfunding platform that lets public school teachers post classroom project requests and receive direct donations from individual donors. Teachers can request technology, STEM supplies, books, coding kits, and other classroom materials. The platform is free for teachers, and donations are handled entirely by DonorsChoose. Projects are funded by members of the public, corporate donors, and foundation matching programs that regularly top up contributions to teacher requests.

Who Is Eligible in Pennsylvania

Any public school teacher in Pennsylvania, from kindergarten through grade 12, can post a project. Charter school teachers at many schools are also eligible. There is no application process beyond creating a teacher account and posting a project. Teachers in high-need schools may qualify for additional matching from DonorsChoose partners and corporate sponsors.

Funding Amounts

Individual project requests typically range from $200 to $2,000. Projects over $1,000 take longer to fund but are regularly completed through combination of individual donors and corporate matching programs. Teachers can post multiple projects throughout the school year.

How Forward Education Products Qualify

Forward Education products are a great fit for DonorsChoose projects. Teachers can post specific requests for micro:bit starter kits, coding curriculum materials, or MicroChat classroom sets. Our products are tangible, student-facing, and easy to photograph for project updates, which increases donor confidence and project completion rates. We recommend including photos of the product in use and a clear description of the learning outcome for students.

How to Apply and Timeline

Teachers can create a DonorsChoose account and post a project at any time during the school year. Projects are live immediately after posting and remain active for up to four months. Once fully funded, DonorsChoose purchases and ships the materials directly to the school. There is no cost to the teacher. Posting early in the school year, before holiday giving seasons, tends to improve funding speed.
