Chicago Community Trust Education Grants
What This Grant Funds
The Chicago Community Trust (CCT) is one of the largest community foundations in the nation. Its education grantmaking supports programs that improve educational outcomes for youth in the Chicago region. Technology education, STEM access, coding, and climate literacy are funded areas. CCT often funds organizations that serve as intermediaries connecting schools to resources.
Who Is Eligible in Illinois
Nonprofits and educational organizations serving the Chicago metropolitan area are primarily eligible. K-12 schools may be eligible as direct grantees or as program partners. CCT prioritizes equity — programs serving low-income students, students of color, and historically underserved communities in Cook County and surrounding collar counties are strongly favored.
Funding Amounts
Grants range from $25,000 to $250,000. Multiyear grants are available for established organizations with strong track records. Check cct.org/grants for current priorities and open cycles.
How Forward Education Products Qualify
CCT's focus on equity in education aligns with Forward Education's mission to make AI literacy and physical computing accessible to all students. A partnership with a CCT-connected nonprofit can create a pathway for Chicago-area schools to access micro:bit kits and MicroChat AI curriculum as part of a broader equity program.
How to Apply and Key Deadlines
CCT uses a competitive grant process. Visit cct.org/grants to find current open funding cycles. Letters of inquiry are typically the first step. CCT staff are active in the Chicago nonprofit community — connecting with program officers at convenings can strengthen your application.
Keep in Mind
CCT is Chicago-focused. Schools and organizations outside the Chicago metro should look to other foundations. CCT values equity, community voice, and systemic change over one-time equipment purchases — frame your application around outcomes for students, not just hardware.
