The Coding for Good Kit is our newest all-in-one coding and robotics toolkit for students to explore technology and its role in solving real-world challenges.
Everyday, we get to hear from educators sharing “aha” moments when their students connect the dots between their Climate Action Kit project, and the urgent challenges impacting our world. We hear about recesses willingly spent bringing ideas to life. Heartwarming stories about pride, grit, the joy of overcoming obstacles. And, most importantly, we hear about students who aren’t typically into STEAM develop a new sense of self-belief in their skills and their ability to shape a better future for themselves, their community, and our world.
Originally developed in 2019, the Climate Action Kit was one of the first coding and robotics kits to directly tie physical computing with real-world issues. In 2022, the Climate Action Kit was re-released with new plug & play hardware technology that made building coding & robotics projects easier than ever before. This new hardware introduced new sensors, building blocks, and digital features in MakeCode that made coding with micro:bit easier and more engaging for educators and students.
The Coding for Good Kit is built to carry that sense of purpose and possibility even further.
Like the Climate Action Kit, it is an open-ended toolkit with lessons and projects that align with State Standards across settings, subjects, and grade levels. But, with more building blocks and new smart modules, motors, and AI-ready sensors, it expands our plug-and-play ecosystem to address a wider range of global challenges from climate and conservation to health, safety, accessibility, and community innovation. Plus, with built-in pathways to train and use AI models, projects behave even more like the technologies shaping our world and keep pace with the rapid pace of innovation.
It builds on the purpose-driven learning teachers love, and gives students more freedom to learn how technology addresses the issues they care about most.

The Climate Action Kit focused deeply on environmental learning.
The Coding for Good Kit widens the lens.
The Climate Action Kit and accompanying lessons and projects are meaningful, real, and give students a hands-on understanding of major environment-focused topics like smart farms, wind turbines, sea-level monitors, energy systems, and more. Through learning about a Big Idea and applying coding, design, and engineering skills, students develop global competencies by solving authentic climate challenges.
The Coding for Good Kit expands on that foundation.
Now students can explore climate and health.
Conservation and community safety.
Environmental systems and accessibility tools.
What’s new in the Coding for Good Kit
Educators familiar with the Climate Action Kit will notice an immediate upgrade. The system now includes:
- Colour Sensor – Detect environmental cues, sort materials, create accessibility indicators, or explore automated systems.
- PIR Motion Sensor – Prototype safety tools, wildlife counters, occupancy trackers, or community-focused alert systems.
- LCD Screen – Display real-time data, build dashboards, create alerts, and help students communicate and visualize their thinking.
- Temperature Probe – Investigate water quality, food safety, climate patterns, and environmental conditions indoors or outdoors.
- New Water Pump – Support long-term, continuous and intermittent water flow for hydroponics, irrigation systems, and other projects that involve water.
- Additional Positional Servo – Add more movement, lift mechanisms, rotating parts, and multi-step automation.
- More building blocks – Build bigger, more complex, more creative prototypes with ease.
Everything connects through our growing plug-and-play ecosystem of existing micro:bit modules, AI-ready sensors, and building blocks that work across all of our products in the Forward ecosystem, and with LEGO building blocks for added versatility and creativity.
Because the Coding for Good Kit is built on our consistent plug-and-play platform, teachers continue to build capacity on a system they know, while students stretch their creativity and problem-solving skills into new territory.

Backward compatible with the Climate Action Kit. Forward thinking.
The Coding for Good Kit works with every Climate Action Kit lesson. That means it’s an upgrade without a learning curve. With the Coding for Good Kit, you can:
- Access the entire library of existing Climate Action Kit projects
- Layer in new sensors to extend or enhance familiar builds
- Add movement, sensing, displays, or AI-trained inputs to existing designs
-
Help students create brand-new prototypes that reflect modern community and industry tools
New lessons and AI-enhanced projects
With the release of the Coding for Good Kit, our educational curriculum designers are switching their focus to develop new lessons and projects that use the added sensors, modules, motors, and building blocks. And, as our portfolio of AI-enabled learning products and apps are released, existing lessons will be modified with AI literacy learning extensions and brand-new AI literacy lessons will be published for classrooms explore:
- Real-time data collection
- AI model training
- Pattern recognition
- Smarter feedback loops
- AI-driven decision making
- Expanded engineering challenges
These resources will roll out continuously and are designed to blend seamlessly with the lessons you already teach.
A new chapter in purpose-driven STEAM
The Climate Action Kit helped thousands of students discover they could solve environmental challenges with technology.
The Coding for Good Kit builds on that success and expands the mission to more global issues and gives students more tools, more creativity, and more agency to design solutions that matter.
It’s bigger.
More capable.
And most important:
It creates more opportunities for students to use technology for good.
