About This Grant
The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act (Perkins V) is a federal formula grant that funds Career and Technical Education in every state. In Minnesota, MDE distributes Perkins V funds through 23 regional CTE consortia. Each consortium manages allocations for the school districts in its region.
Schools do not apply directly to the federal government. Instead, your district works with its regional CTE consortium coordinator to include eligible expenses in the local CTE plan. Approved expenses typically include equipment, curriculum, professional development, and supplies tied to specific CTE pathways.
Computer science, coding, robotics, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy are all recognized CTE pathways in Minnesota. Perkins V funds can cover tools and curriculum that help students build skills in these areas and connect to post-secondary or career opportunities.
