Eligibility

K-12 teachers and schools in Louisiana electric cooperative service territories. Teachers must work in a school served by a participating Louisiana electric cooperative.

Program Goals

Fund innovative classroom projects proposed by K-12 teachers. Bright Ideas grants support hands-on STEM learning, technology integration, and creative curriculum projects that cooperatives could not otherwise fund.

Application and Distribution

Applications are submitted through the Louisiana Electric Cooperatives website or directly to the local cooperative. October 15, 2026 deadline. Each cooperative may award up to 5 grants per year.

Cycle Notes

Annual fall cycle. Applications open in late summer and close October 15. Awards announced in November or December. Each cooperative selects its own winners.

Grant Award Amount

Awards up to $1,000 per project. Each participating cooperative may fund up to 5 projects annually. Teachers in rural cooperative service areas are the primary audience.

How do I know if my school is in a cooperative service area?

Check laec.coop to find your local cooperative. Your utility bill will also show your provider.

Can one teacher apply to multiple cooperatives?

No. Applications go through your school's local electric cooperative only.

What types of projects are funded?

Innovative, hands-on classroom projects. STEM kits, robotics, coding activities, and technology tools are common winners.
